Research Focus
Our program project will use the pig-to-human decedent model to better understand the immunology and physiology of kidney xenotransplantation, laying groundwork for future clinical trials of kidney xenotransplantation in living recipients. Our program comprises four integrated projects investigating clinical immunosuppressive and desensitization protocols, B-cell immunology and immunosuppressant sequelae, T- cell immunology, and the physiology of xenotransplant. The projects are designed for adaptive rapid response and protocol adaptations with accumulating evidence over the course of 20 pig-to-human xenotransplants. The Administrative Core will facilitate timely and high-quality scientific interchange among the project teams, to accelerate progress toward functional resolution of key questions in these interlinked disciplines. The functions of the Administrative Core, located in the Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and directed by MPI Dorry Segev, MD, PhD, include facilitating scientific interchange, coordinating decisions about study protocols that span the four projects over the timeline of 20 xenotransplants, and resolving a…
