PROJECT SUMMARY – OVERALL The Global Human Immune Variation Initiative (GHIVI) aims to establish a comprehensive understanding of immune response variability across many human populations. By uniting researchers from multiple disciplines and using cutting-edge technology in genomics, immunology, infectiology, human genetics, evolutionary biology, and systems biology, GHIVI will investigate how a healthy immune system responds to stimuli across diverse ancestries, environments, and lifestyles. Our scientific approach maximizes synergy between our three research projects, each studying the same set of 1,240 individuals chosen to represent a wide range of ancestries and environments. This promotes continuous data sharing and collaboration among team members. We have three broad and interrelated research objectives: Objective 1: Characterize Variation in Innate and Adaptive Immune Systems: Project 1 will study functional variation in human stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and their role in regulating immune responses; Project 2 will investigate functional variation in innate immune responses to live pathogens; Project 3, will examine functional variation in CD4+ T cell effector functi…
